More than a metaphor

Have you ever heard someone describe snow as "sparkling"? I figured it was just an exaggeration to paint a picture of pure, clean snow.

Nope. Snow really can sparkle.

Of course, you have to be in the insanely cold temperatures of Alaska to see it, but it is breath-takingly beautiful. Under every street lamp, in the glow of my car's headlights, out every window, it sparkles. Every flake that drifts down is a jewel. (Ok, that's a metaphor or an exaggeration.) It's amazing.

So, I guess the moral of the story is that the cold isn't all bad. It creates some incredibly beautiful phenomenons.
